DISCOVERY

An update of corporate branding policies prompted a request to evaluate a private, client-only website for compliance. In addition, discussions and interviews with stakeholders yielded the following feedback: unintuitive navigation, inefficient workflow,  and out-of-date content resulted in a decision to perform a site redesign for optimization purposes.

MY ROLE

I co-managed this project. During this project, I collaborated with team leader stakeholders, a UX researcher, a UI designer, and an analytics researcher.

PROCESS

The website optimization process began with a page audit of the website in its current phase. The site audit was followed by a content edit in which each team lead edited the content found on their pages for consistency and correctness.  Next, a UX researcher was pulled in to assist with a card sort activity for the website. This helped the team to determine next steps in the navigation.

Once the updated navigation had been finalized, an A/B test was conducted to determine overall usability. Results of the A/B test confirmed that the updated navigation was more intuitive than the original and was adapted as the new navigation.

In the meantime, an updated template for the website was designed by a UX designer. This approach brought a tabbed format to content pages and added a large hero graphic on the page. This new template caused another round of content updates due to the new organizational structure.

Following the template update, another A/B test was conducted to gauge the usability of the updated template. The test concluded the tabbed view would not impact usability too strongly and so it was incorporated into the website.

During this time, the updated digital asset libraries were incorporated into the website as well. This project ended with a final update to the home page, modeled after another organizational site that the team's external website vendor recommended.

RESULTS

At present time, analytics have not been available to provide a quantitative look at this redesign. However, based on feedback received, the updated site design is more user-friendly, efficient, and intuitive.
